Topic: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

Discover Card started rejecting my OFX requests with a 403 error starting end of August. Anyone else getting this?

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

I am getting this as well. For me, I was last able to access Discover on 9/10/2019.

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

Ok, well, at least it's not just me.

I called Discover Customer Service, which, of course, was useless. They insist it's nothing on their end. Yet I think it is because Quicken also had a problem mid-August with Discover.

Interesting you could download into September though. You're now getting a 403 Forbidden error?

I've tried a bunch of things to resolve it to no avail. If you find a fix, please post.

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

This support document from IGG seems to imply that Discover has disabled OFX access:

https://www.iggsoftware.com/support/art … nload-ofx/

However, there's a different support document from Quicken saying they have an update to fix it (can't link it here because of the 1 URL rule). Also, Monedance's forums just have the developer stating they also have a problem and are looking into it. No timeframe was provided.

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

Yep, I called them and they said they made a change last week moving to "direct connect" supporting only Quicken, QuickBooks and eMoney.

Seems like lots of Banks are dropping their OFX support, which really sucks.  We should start a citizen initiated referendum to force banks to comply with existing open standards!

Picket lines outside Discover headquarters anyone?

Thanks all.
I guess Discover Customer Service was just told, when I called they knew nothing.
I'm just going to cancel the card. AmEx still supports OFX downloads.

Could you provide a link to that please?

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

Yeah, this is a shame. My bank already didn't allow me access either, so I've been meaning to instead use headless Chrome to download my transactions. I guess this will force me to finally try it out.

It looks like Discover has a pretty easy URL to hit once you are logged in. I haven't tried it out yet, but it looks like this:

https://card.discover.com/cardmembersvc … 190918.qfx

I can adjust the dates and it will download an OFX file. Not sure if or how the stmtKey or bid params change.

Sure! I found it here:

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

Thank you. I followed the instructions and installed the patch. My Quicken 2019 still uses what they call Web Connect Express rather than Direct Connect (OFX).

The Discover URL you posted above, what's supposed to go into the stmtKey and bid fields? Also, it ends with "RecentActivity-20190918", what's the rule for changing that? Finally, I assume you request it only after logging into the account from the browser first?

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

Correct. You need to be authenticated to the Discover Website first. Then I just pulled the URL from the "Download" link here:

https://card.discover.com/cardmembersvc … ty#/recent

You can't see the link if you hover over the button since it is JavaScript, but if you use your browser's developer tools and view the network requests, you'll see it.

It could be stmtKey and bid fields are the same for everyone. I just wasn't sure so I XXXXd them out. To be honest, I bet they are since your account info should all be tied to your current session (and cookies).

For the "&fileName=Discover-RecentActivity-20190918.qfx", you can give it a different file name and it will use it for the download. I tried "&fileName=Discover-RecentActivity-201909.qfx" for example and it used it for the downloaded file name.

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

Hey Quicken users, could you do me (us) a favor?

I think Quicken has a connection dump facility whereby users can print out the details of its http/ofx connection with whatever institution it's talking to.

Can one of you post that for Discover Card? Maybe non-Quicken users can mimic whatever connection scheme Quicken uses to get OFX access.

Thanks.

Re: Discover Card returning http 403 Fobidden Error

I don't have Quicken so I don't know the steps. But it doesn't matter as it seems Discover no longer supports Direct Connect.
